D.A.R.E–Drugs Are Really Expensive

D.A.R.E.–Drugs Are Really Expensive

I have read a few shocking statistics lately about the state of our health care system. I’m pissed off that the top 2 leading causes of death in our country are heart disease and cancer—2 completely preventable lifestyle diseases. I’m even more pissed off that far outnumbering the stats on heart disease and cancer are death by iatrogenic causes (‘…of or relating to illness caused by medical examination or treatment.”) totaling more that 750,000 deaths per year in the United States. That’s the equivalent of 6 jumbo jets per day going down.

Yes, these facts make me sad and upset…., but at the same time they give me an even stronger call to action towards my purpose of making my community a healthier place.
The real tear jerking statistics that have recently come out in the medical journals are that the kids are now the target of the drug companies. It is now fact that the children being born today are going to have a shorter lifespan than their parents. This is the first time in history that we are seeing this. From a biological perspective, we are literally living in an unsuitable environment to sustain life. There are now more that 2.7 million children between the ages of 4-17 on ADHD drugs (Ritalin & Concerta), which are classified as class 2 controlled substances—the same classification as cocaine and meth. We are seeing the obesity rates in children skyrocket and studies are showing 1/3 children are now considered clinically obese.

We are living in a nation where we spend over 2 trillion dollars per year on healthcare (that’s $6,500 for every man, woman and child per year!). We take the most amount of medications of any country in the world. We have the most advanced technology, state of the art hospitals, more nurses and doctors than ever, endless funding for research, yet we are ranked 37th in the world for health performance. Our healthcare system is not only performing horribly, but it is having a fatal economic impact. One half of all personal bankruptcies are caused by health related problems. So my question is: Is our current system working? Like Einstein said, “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.” NO! Our current health care system is not working, I don’t think the answer is more pills and more surgery.

So what’s the solution? Here’s a hint: It starts with you.

Are you ready to regain your life? Do you want your children to live a longer, healthier life than you? Are you interested in letting your health make you rich? Do you want to live a more extraordinary life?
